SACRED MISSION Korea(2013) A Family Saga - Transcending Ideologies This documentary film is a spiritual legacy of Vana Kim's family and a story about a divided family in South and North Korea, now spread around the world. It is hoped that this film will help the world to take a fresh look at the reunification issues on the Korean peninsula. Vana's maternal grandfather, Lee Jong Man founded "Daedong Mining Company" in early 30's in Korea that grew into "Daedong Corporation," the largest business enterprise in Korea at that time. He used all his fortune to develop a new agricultural system of self-managing farmers, and lead a movement to modernize Korea. He promoted a new culture of higher consciousness and educated a new breed of men of science and technology. He was also the biggest financial supporter of Kim Koo, the President of the Provisionary (Sixth) Government of Korea. After the division of North and South Korea, he remained in North Korea and served as the minister of Mine and Industry and became the first chairman of the Reunification Committee of DPRK (North Korea). In South Korea, he is known as the man of "Beautiful Failure" and the only capitalist buried in North Korea's Patriots Cemetery.

While our research focuses on the technical "Head-Work" of international treaties, this narrative captures the essential "Heart-Work" required for national reconciliation. Vana Kim (Hansen) traces the 100-year arc of her family’s legacy—from the pioneering "Grand Unity" philosophy of Lee Jong-man to a 30-year mission for peace—revealing that permanent neutrality is not just a diplomatic tool, but a path to healing the undivided heart of the Korean people.
